France, leading a group of 20 countries, signed a pledge to “triple nuclear energy capacity from 2020 by 2050” at COP28 in Dubai on Saturday. The declaration recognizes “the key role of nuclear energy in achieving global net-zero greenhouse gas emissions/carbon neutrality by or around mid-century,” but is not legally binding.
However, not everyone in France is satisfied with this development.
According to authoritative voices, relying on nuclear power would be “a false solution” – as it is necessary to rely on renewable energy instead.
