The tiger mosquito that transmits the Dengue disease is usually found in tropical climates, but in recent years it has been detected in much of France. Some studies indicate a possible 50-fold increase in locally acquired dengue cases in France. A warmer and wetter climate will make dengue endemic in southern Europe. Although dengue is usually characterized by mild or no symptoms, it can also lead to high fever, severe headache and vomiting. Severe dengue can cause bleeding of the gums, abdominal pain and, in some cases, death.
