Italian medicines agency has approved the dengue disease vaccine, it can be administered to individuals over 4 years of age, and 2 doses are sufficient to achieve immunization. Dengue has been listed by the WHO as one of 10 global health threats and is endemic in more than 125 countries.
In Italy the disease is not endemic, but there are cases where dengue has been contracted in other countries. This vaccine is a valuable tool that can prevent the risk of infection and subsequent risk of Dengue hospitalization, regardless of previous exposure to the virus.
