What happened

The high temperatures have raised the water temperature of the Rhône River in eastern France above the thresholds for cooling use. Two Nuclear Power Plants along the river may have to reduce power generation starting this weekend due to a persistent heatwave in the region.

According to a spokesperson from nuclear operator EDF, it is currently unclear how long the situation will last and how much energy production will be affected. This will depend on weather conditions and electricity supply needs.
