What happened

China has announced a new occurrence of H5N6 bird flu infection, which pertains to a 27-year-old lady hailing from Sichuan province. This incident marks the fifth occurrence of its kind within this year.

Per a statement released by the Centre for Health Protection in Hong Kong, the woman exhibited symptoms starting on July 20 and was admitted for medical care on July 22. The report omits details about how she came into contact with the virus or her current health condition. Many of the previous cases involved individuals who had been exposed to birds or environments with birds prior to falling ill.

This development raises the global tally to 86 instances since the virus was first identified in humans in 2014, with a majority of cases originating in China.
