EU Commission has implemented infringement procedures against violation of pollution limits especially in the North of Italy

The North of Italy has worse air quality in Europe because there are special climatic and geographical conditions and there are high amounts of industries. Italian minister Giorgio Maione argues that meeting tighter guidelines could cause GDP in Lombardy and other wealthy northern regions to drop significantly. The EU commission wants to lower the limits even further by 2030 but Italy and other european countries stress the need to consider specific regional conditions.
