Officials of the Pakistan Army said that two soldiers and 15 terrorists have been killed in a series of intelligence-based operations (IBOs) that have been conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The initial operation, which was conducted in the Karak district, resulted in the neutralisation of eight militants who were reported to be present in the area. In a subsequent operation in the North Waziristan district, security forces eliminated four additional terrorists. Two soldiers lost their lives in the exchange of gunfire. In the Gomal Zam area of the South Waziristan district, a gun battle was initiated, resulting in the demise of three additional terrorists. In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that arms and ammunition were recovered during the IBOs, adding that sanitisation operations were underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area. In recent years, Pakistan has experienced a notable escalation in terrorist activities, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. This surge follows the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) termination of its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. In the Global Terrorism Index 2025, Pakistan has been ranked second in the list of nations with the highest incidence of terrorism. The report indicates a 45% increase in the number of deaths resulting from terrorist attacks over the past year, with the current figure standing at 1,081.
