What happened

Kazakhstan’s national atomic company Kazatomprom and ČEZ, a leading energy company in the Czech Republic, on April 15th, 2025, in Prague, signed a seven-year uranium supply agreement. This deal ensures that Kazatomprom will provide natural uranium concentrates supplies to ČEZ, covering approximately one-third of the uranium needed for Westinghouse-manufactured fuel assemblies utilized at the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). This agreement marks a significant expansion for Kazatomprom’s presence in the European continent, strengthening ČEZ’s uranium supply diversification, helping the Czech Republic enhance its energy security, and reducing its reliance on previous supply sources. This deal aligns with the decarbonization strategy of ČEZ, ensuring a solid and reliable fuel supply for its NPPs and at the same time supporting the clean energy transition of the Czech Republic.
