In response to a report of a strong, acrid odour emanating from the organic chemistry laboratory of a Higher Technical Institute in Pordenone, Italy, firefighters from the provincial command, with the support of the CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) unit, intervened. Concurrently, the school’s emergency plan was initiated by the staff, resulting in the isolation of the affected area. The inspection, which was conducted using specialized equipment to detect chemical dispersion, revealed a combustion incident, albeit without flame development, within an autoclave laboratory apparatus. The absence of harmful residues resulting from the combustion after ventilation of the affected rooms rendered the evacuation of the entire school building unnecessary, thus enabling the resumption of ordinary activities. The episode was resolved without injuries or further consequences.
