An Italian multidisciplinary team of infectious disease experts has launched a digital platform called GABIE (an acronym for Genomics, AI, Bioinformatics, Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology). The aim of this initiative, as explained by epidemiologist Massimo Ciccozzi, one of the founders of the platform, is to collect alerts on infectious disease threats active globally. The aforementioned team of infectious disease specialists is part of the WHO’s global alert and response network GOARN and aims to raise awareness among the population of the ongoing health crises, with indications of preventive and management strategies. The GABIE portal, with its real-time data updates facilitated by an AI algorithm, serves as a crucial conduit for disseminating information on the global health implications of infectious diseases, which, by their very nature, transcend geographical boundaries. The GABIE website is intended to serve as a reliable source of information on epidemiological trends, offering a comprehensive collection of links to open-source materials, providing a global overview of the current health situation, with a particular focus on ongoing outbreaks such as avian and human influenza, SARS-CoV-2, Mpox, measles, and the novel bat coronavirus (HKU5-CoV-2). This initiative is undertaken with a Global Health perspective in mind.
