What happened

The US and Tanzania will conduct two joint military exercises to improve regional security and peacekeeping. Justified Accord 2025 will focus on peacekeeping training for Tanzania’s land forces, while Cutlass Express will enhance maritime security with more than 15 countries participating. Joint exercises will take place from 10 to 22 February, resulting in increased military air and naval activity near the ports of Tanga and Msata. The US has worked with the Tanzanian armed forces for 25 years, providing counter-terrorism assistance and professional military education (PME). The exercises will include training in Counter-IED tactics, medical evacuation and maritime interdiction skills. Tanzania’s role in UN peacekeeping missions will also benefit from this cooperation, reinforcing its leadership in regional security.
