A Mobile Training Team (MTT) from Spain’s XVI ‘Canarias’ Brigade is conducting a Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) course in Porto Novo, Benin. This is Spain’s second training initiative in the country under the EU Security and Defence Initiative for the Gulf of Guinea. The first course, held in October 2024, focused on basic maintenance of optical and nuclear material. The current two-week course started on 27 January and will train 15 members of the Benin Republican Police. The aim is to improve their ability to counter threats, particularly jihadist terrorism in northern Benin.
