What happened

At least 17 people, including eight children, were killed in two mass shooting in Serbia and the Balkan region: a school shooting and drive-by attack within a few days. At least eight people were killed and 14 injured after a 21-year-old suspect in a moving car opened fire on passers-by in a town south of Belgrade. The day before, a 13-year-old suspect carried out an attack that authorities say he had been planning for months, killing eight schoolmates and a security guard.

The Serbian President Vucic proposed stricter gun regulations, including more frequent medical and psychological checks for gun owners, and the recruitment of 1,200 new police officers to improve school security.
