Multiple explosions have killed 11 people and injured 65 others in Bukavu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The explosions occurred after a rally in support of the M23 rebel group in South Kivu. Corneille Nangaa, leader of the Congo River Alliance, a political-military group allied to the M23, confirmed the deaths. The M23 blamed the DRC government for the attacks and claimed that suspects had been arrested. President Felix Tshisekedi condemned the violence and offered his condolences to the families of the victims. Nangaa promised to appoint a provincial governor and a mayor for Bukavu. He also promised to rebuild the road between Bukavu and Goma. M23 claims control of both cities and has set up a parallel administration. The group has warned banks in Bukavu and Goma to reopen or face consequences. Tensions remain high as the M23 asserts its authority over eastern DRC.
