Indian Army enhances CBRN capabilities

In a press release, the Indian Army has approved the procurement of 223 Automatic Chemical Agent Detection and Alarm (ACADA) systems from Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T). The total value of the contract is Rs 80.43 crore. The ACADA systems purchased were designed and developed by the Indian DRDO’s Defence Research and Development Establishment, representing a remarkable achievement in the country’s home-grown manufacturing initiative in the CBRN field. The deal, announced by the Ministry of Defence, falls under the Buy Indian (IDDM) category and marks a significant step towards self-reliance in defence and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) technology. The ACADA system comprises two highly sensitive Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) cells for continuous detection and simultaneous monitoring of airborne hazardous and toxic substances. The introduction of ACADA will significantly enhance the Army’s CBRN defensive capability and provide improved capabilities for responding to industrial accident disasters.
