The Franklin County Health Department and the Kentucky Department of Public Health (KDPH) in the United States have verified a case of measles in an adult resident. Health authorities indicate the individual had recently traveled internationally to a region experiencing measles transmission. Officials in New Jersey have documented two new cases in Bergen County, which are suspected to be associated with a confirmed case reported in early February 2025. Health officials assert that there is no epidemiological link between the cases identified in New Jersey and Kentucky, nor are they related to the ongoing outbreak in Texas, which has resulted in 124 infections and the death of one unvaccinated child. Seattle health authorities have reported the first measles case of the year in a King County infant, with potential exposure occurring during international travel. Given the highly contagious nature of the measles virus, US health authorities are strongly encouraging unvaccinated individuals to receive the MMR vaccine, a trivalent measles, mumps, and rubella prophylactic. This vaccine is suitable for children and adults, offering a 93% protection rate after the initial dose, which increases to 97% following the booster dose.
