What happened

As reported by the German news agency DPA, two Afghan men were convicted by the Jena Court of Appeal in Germany on charges of planning an attack on the Swedish Parliament and of being members of a terrorist organisation, namely Islamic State (IS). This conviction followed the establishment of the accused’ involvement in organising the criminal plan in response to the burning of the Quran in Sweden in 2023. Media reports suggest that the two men were friends who had become radicalised together online through exposure to ISIS propaganda.
