What happened

The WHO African Region Weekly Bulletin on Outbreaks and other Emergencies: Week 7 (10–16 February 2025) reported a total of fifty-eight new cases of diphtheria, including five deaths, across eight health districts. These cases constituted 11.1% of all 72 health districts within the nation. Notably, the Banibangou Health District (Tillaberi Region) accounted for a significant proportion of these cases, with 16 cases reported, zero of which resulted in fatalities, representing 27.5% of the total diphtheria cases observed during this period. As of Week 05 of 2025, the national tally stood at 277 cases, including 14 mortalities, resulting in a case fatality ratio (CFR) of 5.1%.
