A new case of measles has been confirmed in British Columbia, in a resident of the Lower Mainland who has travelled to Southeast Asia. Public health officials are currently tracking down the close contacts of the infected patient on board Air Canada Flight 66, according to a joint statement by Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health. Those who have been exposed to the virus and are not immunised due to previous vaccination or natural infection are urged to receive a dose of the measles booster vaccine. Individuals deemed ineligible for the vaccine based on specific health conditions – including children under six months of age and pregnant women – are advised to consult public health officials regarding potential pharmaceutical interventions. This recent case marks the second instance of measles in British Columbia since 2019, coinciding with a nationwide surge in cases across Canada, with 44 new cases reported in Ontario and Quebec alone since February 2025.
