What happened

The Ghana Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service have started a cholera vaccination campaign in Accra to fight an escalating outbreak across the country. Beginning on February 14, the campaign seeks to immunize 300,000 people and contain the spread of the disease, which has already affected five regions (Greater Accra, Eastern Central, Ashanti, Western) with over 40 dead and more than 4000 reported cases. Cholera is highly contagious and spreads through contaminated food and water. Symptoms are severe diarrhea and dehydration, with complications leading to death. The Ghana outbreak has been linked to poor sanitation, unhygienic food practices, and inadequate access to clean drinking water.
