Since January 2023, there has been a surge in scarlet fever cases in Italy, particularly among children and young people under the age of 15. In 2022, several European countries, including France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, reported an increase in cases of invasive group A streptococcal disease (iGAS), and in some cases, scarlet fever as well. The Italian Ministry of Health recently issued a circular letter calling for increased surveillance measures and effective communication with the public.
