What happened

Spain has launched a new communications satellite equipped with cutting-edge technologies that will enable it to handle multiple communication channels, improve data security, and increase reliability, significantly enhancing the operational efficiency of the Spanish Armed Forces. The satellite, called SpainSat NG I, is Europe’s most advanced satellite and is expected to be operational by mid-2025, with the aim of covering up to two-thirds of the Earth’s surface over the next 15 years. It can operate in three frequency bands, can mitigate interference and can withstand radiation, ensuring safe communications over long distances even in the event of a potential nuclear explosion. Its main mission will be to provide effective command and control for the Spanish Armed Forces in areas that lack adequate communications infrastructure. To further develop its military capabilities, Spain is already building a second SpainSat NG II satellite.
