The Malaysian Ministry of Health has reported a second case of mpox, with the patient being a 34-year-old Malaysian who had travelled internationally within the 21 days prior to the onset of symptoms. The Ministry has also confirmed that the patient has been isolated and is currently in stable condition, bringing the total number of infections in the past three months to two. The first case of mpox was reported in September, as per a report by the local news website Free Malaysia Today. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years in August, following the dissemination of a new variant of the viral pathogen from the Congo to neighbouring countries. The zoonotic disease under discussion is transmitted to humans via close physical contact with an infected person or small wild animal, or via contaminated materials. The common symptoms include the appearance of a rash or sores, in addition to flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, and muscle aches, back pain, general weakness, and swollen lymph nodes.
