According to reports in the Iranian media, 80 female students were affected by food poisoning after consuming canned tuna at Pishva Varamin University in Tehran. Health sources stated that 22 of the affected students received treatment on site and were subsequently discharged, while the remaining students were transferred to a hospital for further treatment. The health status of these students was reported to be stable. In the previous year, there have been multiple cases of food poisoning involving students from various Iranian universities. In November, 42 students from a boys’ school in Kashmar, Khorasan Razavi province, were admitted after having breakfast at their school, and in December, 40 students at Shushtar Medical Sciences University experienced symptoms of poisoning after dining in their dormitory, requiring hospitalization. The occurrence of food poisoning incidents in Iran extends beyond the confines of university campuses; reports also indicate instances affecting students and workers, with a number of these cases resulting in casualties. These recurrent incidents underscore systemic challenges about food safety and hygiene standards in educational institutions and workplaces. This situation necessitates urgent action by authorities, including the implementation of more stringent regulations and enhanced monitoring of food preparation and distribution to ensure the health and safety of students and workers.
