A road traffic accident involving a heavy goods vehicle transporting hydrocarbons occurred on Regional 65 at the height of the Castle of Cafaggiolo, in Barberino del Mugello, province of Florence, Italy. The truck collided with a tall plant, resulting in damage to the diesel tank and consequent spillage of fuel onto the road. Two fire brigades, along with the CBRN core – a specialised unit focused on managing of chemical, radiological, and nuclear hazards – were deployed to undertake the necessary safety interventions. These measures included the transfer of the spilled fuel. The incident resulted in the temporary closure of the affected road, but no injuries were reported.
