What happened

ENI, the oil company that owns the affected facility, has stated that the explosion at the refinery in Calenzano, on the outskirts of Florence, allegedly occurred on the tanker truck loading line and not in the tank farm. It is not yet known which tank was involved in the accident. The official Prefecture balance, which is constantly updated, reports that at least two individuals have died, three are unaccounted for, and 26 sustained injuries. During the morning, the President of the Region of Tuscany Eugenio Giani updated the incomplete list of the injured: ‘Two green codes at Careggi, a red code for burns at Careggi, a yellow code for cranial trauma at Careggi, a red code at the Centro Grandi Ustioni in Pisa, and two yellow codes at the hospital in Prato’. All hospitals in the area are on standby for emergencies. Other regional hospitals have also been put on pre-alert in case a large-scale medical plan is needed. Ten fire brigade teams are currently engaged in a search operation for the missing persons, utilising drones.
