A 60-year-old woman died at Eboli Hospital (Salerno province), where she had been admitted last October in critical condition following a tetanus infection probably contracted in the fields. An investigation is currently underway, with the most plausible hypothesis being that the woman sustained injuries from contact with rusty objects while engaged in occupational activities. Despite the diagnosis, the woman’s condition deteriorated relentlessly, ultimately resulting in her demise. It is the second instance of a fatal tetanus infection to be documented in Altavilla Silentina (Salerno province), with the previous occurrence having been 30 years ago.
