According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a ship was travelling 70 nautical miles south-west of Hodeidah (also known as Al Hudaydah), Yemen, when it was struck by multiple explosions that rocked the vessel. The ship and crew remained unscathed, and was able to continue its journey. It is suspected the attack was carried by the Houthi rebels. Since October 2023, when the conflict in Gaza broke out, the Houthi rebels began targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea, an area of great importance to global trade, with approximately $1 trillion worth of goods passing through it annually. Over 90 commercial vessels have previously been attacked with missiles and drones, and the Houthi rebels have stated that further attacks will be carried out as long as the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon persist.
