What happened

State Power Investment Corp (SPIC) announced the beginning of construction of a 23-kilometer-long pipe that will transport nuclear-generated heat from the Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant in China’s Shandong province to a wider area. In November 2020, the plant started providing district heat to the surrounding area. This has been the Country’s first commercial nuclear heating project, providing heat to the entire city of Haiyang. On February 4th a ceremony was held in the city of Yantai, near Haiyang plant, to mark the start of construction of a pipeline to the city of Weihai.
