WHO was notified of a confirmed Lassa fever case in southern Guinea. The case was a 63-year-old man living in the Guéckédou prefecture. The patient was hospitalized on 19 September at the Guéckédou Health Center with fever, headache, asthenia, and anorexia. He was later transferred to the Guéckédou epidemic treatment center, where he was tested for Viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHF). On 22 September the Guéckédou VHF Laboratory confirmed his positivity to Lassa fever. The patient died on 23 September and had a safe and dignified burial.
