The number of confirmed cases of dengue virus infection in Italy has risen from 1 January to 15 October 2024, reaching 650. In the previous week, 625 cases were reported. Of these, 194 are considered indigenous infections, representing a weekly increase of 173 cases. The largest outbreak is in the Marche region, with more than 130 cases of local transmission. The latest Bulletin of the Italian Institute of Health reveals that the number of imported cases (associated with travel abroad) has reached 456, representing a slight increase of four cases compared to the previous week. Of the total number of cases, 51% are male, with an average age of 45 years. The most significant outbreak has been identified in the Marche region, specifically in the city of Fano. The outbreak has resulted in the confirmed detection of 133 cases of dengue fever type 2 (Denv-2), all of which manifested symptoms consistent with the disease. Isolated instances of indigenous dengue virus infection type 1 and 2 have been recorded in the regions of Emilia Romagna (36), Lombardy (10), Veneto (1), Abruzzo (8), and Tuscany (2). No deaths have been reported as a direct consequence of dengue in the country.
