Students and residents in Cleves, Ohio, were forced to leave the neighboring area after a railway car started leaking styrene from a pressure release valve. Anyone within 800 meters of the area near U.S. Route 50 and the Great Miami River was advised by Hamilton County’s Emergency Management Agency to leave immediately, as exposure to styrene can cause headaches, nausea and respiratory problems. Long-term exposure can cause organ damage. People living outside the evacuation area have been told to stay indoors with their windows closed. The fire brigade was on the scene and there had been mobilisation of environmental protection agencies, according to Central Railroad of Indiana spokesman Tom Ciuba.
