What happened

A note from the Marche Region indicates the occurrence of a significant dengue outbreak in Fano (Province of Pesaro-Urbino), with 102 confirmed cases and 10 probable cases currently documented in the region. Other cases exhibiting compatible symptoms in recent days are also being investigated. To prevent the spread of the disease, all the public health measures foreseen by regional health protocols have been implemented. The Municipality of Fano has conducted a comprehensive disinfestation programme throughout the urban area, together with an intervention to eradicate larvae. Furthermore, an awareness campaign has been initiated to educate residents on the methods of eradicating mosquitoes in their gardens and private premises. As posited by experts, the advancement of this indigenous dengue outbreak was facilitated by concomitant factors, including a temperate climate, an absence of pest control measures, and the proliferation of copious numbers of tiger mosquitoes.
