What happened

In Italy, the vaccination campaign against the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the influenza virus is scheduled to commence before the beginning of 2023. The immunisation process for individuals aged 65 and above will start shortly in Emilia Romagna, Veneto, and Lombardy. This decision is based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Health regarding the circulation of respiratory viruses in the 2023/24 season and the forecast for the forthcoming season. It is recommended that the influenza vaccination be administered to individuals aged sixty years or above, pregnant and postpartum women, children between six months and six years of age, and those suffering from chronic diseases that expose them to a greater risk of complications in the event of infection. The vaccination is offered free of charge. Those at high risk of complications, such as individuals in long-term care facilities, family members of those at high risk, and employees of essential public services, including medical professionals and social welfare personnel, police officers, and fire brigade personnel, will also be vaccinated.
