What happened

In a statement published on its institutional website, the Italian Ministry of Health has issued three warnings from the manufacturer concerning some seasoned cup packages, indicating a microbiological risk posed by the potential presence of the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. The statement advises consumers to refrain from consuming the product and to return the purchased packaging to the point of sale. The Listeria bacteria is the etiological agent responsible for Listeriosis, a disease characterised by gastroenteritis, which typically manifests within a few hours of ingestion of contaminated food. In rare instances, the infection can progress to meningitis, encephalitis, and sepsis.
