On Tuesday, 17 September, a terrorist attack was launched against the international airport of Mali’s capital, Bamako. The attack was later claimed by a jihadist group linked to al-Qaeda. The terrorists fired random shots at the presidential hangar, wounding many soldiers, although the exact number of victims has not yet been announced. The hangar usually hosts official guests and the head of state of the West African country. The Malian General Staff said they had brought the situation under control, even though it cost several lives and destroyed military aircraft. It seems that everything started with gunfights outside the police station and later the terrorists attacked with rocket launchers. However, details are still vague and the dynamics of the attack remain unclear.
