What happened

The number of deaths attributable to West Nile virus in Modena has increased to four, according to a recent report by the local health authority (AUSL). The two most recent deaths, which involved an 86-year-old and a 70-year-old resident of the municipalities of Carpi and Castelfranco Emilia, respectively, were reported as suffering from persistent chronic illnesses, according to the same source. The AUSL of Modena has announced that the extraordinary monitoring and prevention measures to prevent the spread of the virus are still active. Specifically, the Arbovirosis 2024 Plan, which predicted an increase in risk levels throughout the Emilia-Romagna region, still requires actions against adult mosquitoes in the green areas of healthcare and social institutions, such as hospitals and residential facilities with inpatients.
