Infinity Power, a California-based company, claims to have developed a nuclear battery with the highest level of overall efficiency ever achieved compared to other radioisotope energy conversion methods with low efficiency. The battery, developed with support from the US Department of Defense, can provide tens of milliwatts of power for over 100 years by using novel electrochemical energy conversion, requiring less radioisotope to produce the same amount of power as other conversion processes with a wider range of radioisotope materials’ selection. Thanks to its scalability, the battery can produce a wide range of power generation, from nanowatts to kilowatts or more. The company believes this will rapidly make the market accept it for specialized applications like implantable medical devices, deep-sea power systems, space power systems, remote area power systems, and microgrid power systems.
