On 13 June 2024, in conjunction with the summit on peace in Ukraine organized in Switzerland, Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks occurred against the websites of the Confederation and the organizations involved in the event. These cyberattacks, although causing disruptions, remained within the established tolerability range. The activities of the units involved in the conference have not been significantly compromised.
The DDoS attacks only aim to limit access to web pages. Unlike ransomware attacks, which steal sensitive data from computer systems, DDoS attacks pose no data or system security risk.
According to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), these types of attacks by hacktivists intend to disrupt cyberspace and spread their political message. Such attacks were foreseeable and the NCSC certifies that there is no acute danger. The NCSC will continue to inform about the cyber incident from their official website.
