What happened

According to official sources, a homemade explosive device (HME) went off in a residence in the Algonquin Highlands. The blast resulted in severe injuries to an individual. The Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) intervened at a residence after receiving a report of a serious injury caused by explosive material. Police were called to assist Fire and Emergency Services after the man’s injury. As the investigation progressed, neighboring residents were evacuated, and the OPP Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) was deployed, retrieving and securing further explosive materials and devices from the property. A man was later arrested and charged with unlawful fabrication or possession of explosives and breach of recognizance.
