The Africa CDC’s Weekly Event-Based Surveillance Report (28 April 2024) indicates that the EPHI has documented 2,817 new suspected measles cases and 20 fatalities (CFR: 0.7%) across 92 woredas with ongoing outbreaks. To date, there have been 18,353 suspected cases and 132 deaths (CFR: 0.7%) reported in 101 of Ethiopia’s 1,085 woredas this year. Notably, 41% of the cases involved individuals who had not received the measles vaccine. The outbreak, which began in August 2021, continues to affect the region. As of 2021, only 54% of children under the age of five in Ethiopia had received the measles vaccine.
