What happened

The Africa CDC’s Weekly Event Based Surveillance Report – Africa CDC Epidemic Intelligence Report (April 28, 2024) indicates that the MoH reported 76 new cases of dengue fever (22 confirmed; 54 suspected) and one new death (CFR: 1.3%) from three regions. In Bamako, 70 cases were reported, resulting in one death. In Kayes, two cases were identified, with no fatalities. Finally, in Koulikoro, four cases were documented, with no associated deaths. This represents a 15% decrease in the number of new cases reported compared to the previous update. A total of 3,318 cases (580 confirmed; 2,738 suspected) and four deaths (CFR: 0.1%) of dengue fever have been reported from nine of the ten regions in Mali. Bamako has remained a focal point of the epidemic, accounting for a significant proportion, 37% of all reported cases. Two serotypes (VDEN-1 and VDEN-3) were identified among the confirmed cases. This is a protracted outbreak that commenced in August 2023.
