What happened

In Bangladesh, Nipah virus (NiV) outbreaks are seasonal with cases reported each year from December to April, and they are generally correlated to date palm sap harvesting and consumption. Two laboratory-confirmed cases of NiV were reported by health authorities in the Dhaka’s division during the period between January 1st and February 9th, 2024. Both patients, one male and one female, died.
