What happened

On March 7, 2024, the Electricity Transmission System Operator (MEPSO) of the Republic of North Macedonia was the victim of a hacker attack. However, the state-owned company, through a press release, informed that the incident did not compromise the integrity of the electricity supply, ensuring the full operability of the infrastructure. The state-owned company, in addition to having adopted the necessary cybersecurity measures, has informed the competent authorities and is collaborating with external experts to mitigate the effects of the attack. Furthermore, the government has announced that it has concluded a significant contract for the implementation of software against cyber risks with the Aitoniks company of Skopje valued at 23,027,141 euros and has proposed the establishment of an agency for cyber security and digital transformation.
