South Africa: IRP energy plan 2023

The draft Integrated Resource Plan setting out how South Africa will seek to ensure the security of electricity supply was formally issued by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe. South Africa’s previous IRP recognized the need to retain nuclear power in the country’s energy mix and supported utility Eskom in pursuing a license for the long-term operation of the Koeberg nuclear power plant. The plant’s life extension is currently being reviewed by the National Nuclear Regulator.
