On December 6th, China achieved a significant milestone with the commencement of commercial operation of its independently developed high-temperature gas-cooled reactor demonstrator. This marks the world’s first commercially operational modular nuclear power plant using fourth-generation nuclear technology, transitioning from experimental phases to the commercial market.
The China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) played a crucial role in the project, contributing to aspects such as EPC contracts, fuel element manufacturing, and project construction. Notably, CNNC’s collaboration with Tsinghua University has been instrumental in promoting the commercialization of cutting-edge nuclear technology.
