French President Emmanuel Macron agreed to a joint declaration with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan to promote trade and cooperation in nuclear energy and strategic minerals during Macron’s visit to the Central Asian nation. France is one of Kazakhstan’s largest trading partners and has invested USD 18.7 billion (EUR 17.51 billion) in the Kazakh economy over the past 15 years.
Kazakhstan, already the world’s largest producer of uranium, accounting for 42% of world production, may develop its own nuclear energy industry in the near future. The country will soon hold a referendum on the construction of its first Nuclear Power Plant.
