What happened

Morocco, the world’s third-largest exporter of tomatoes, is facing a significant threat from ToBRFV, a virus that endangers tomato crops. The outbreak began in October 2021 in Souss-Massa and spread to Dakhla by March 2022. During the ongoing 2022-23 production season, the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) confirmed around ten ToBRFV outbreaks in greenhouse-cultivated tomatoes, prompting official measures. In response, farmers are adopting ToBRFV-resistant tomato varieties and enhancing biosecurity measures to navigate these challenges.
