African swine fever has spread to several counties in the country and caused the slaughter of 25,000 pigs. The disease is harmless to humans and other animals, but is fatal to pigs. There is no medicine or vaccine against African swine fever, so the only way to control it is to destroy the animals and eradicate the colonies. The government has enacted several measures including requiring farmers to keep livestock in an enclosed place with no possibility of contact with wild animals; if a case of the disease is detected on a farm, farmers are obliged to put down all animals. Meanwhile, hunters have received unlimited hunting permits for wild boar across the nation, because they are the ones who transmit the infectious disease.
