What happened

A suicide bomber blew himself up in the Guzargah Mosque in Herat province during Friday prayers. The attack killed thirteen people including the Imam and injured twenty-three others, although the number of victims could be higher. Residents have expressed concern over the explosion, since such worries had existed for at least two decades.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion. The attack faced reaction from the Islamic Emirate and other top Afghan politicians. Former President Hamid Karzai on Twitter condemned the explosion, calling it contrary to human and Islamic values.
